Catherine Schuyler Chapter, NSDAR

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 by Miss Eugenia Washington, Mrs. Ellen Walworth, Mrs. Mary S. Lockwood, and Miss Mary Desha. The DAR is headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia, at 1776 D Street NW. We are a non-political and non-profit volunteer women's service organization.

Seven years later, the Catherine Schuyler Chapter, NSDAR charter, dated February 8, 1897, was granted. Mary Adelia (Addie) Chamberlain Ward was appointed by the State Regent, Miss Mary Elisabeth Forsyth of Kingston, New York, as the organizing regent for a chapter to be centered in Allegany County.

The Catherine Schuyler Chapter, NSDAR, was officially organized on June 12, 1897, at a meeting held at the Belmont Free Library. This library was established by the Belmont Literary and Historical Society and erected on land donated for its purpose by the chapter's organizing regent.
